In a historic decision, the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games has chosen Pristina, the capital of Kosovo, to host the prestigious 2030 Mediterranean Games. The announcement came after a general assembly meeting held in the Greek city of Heraklion, where Pristina received an overwhelming majority of 55 out of 66 votes.

The Kosovo Olympic Committee expressed their joy and pride on Facebook, marking this as a moment where “Kosovo’s history [was] written in Heraklion.” The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, who was present at the meeting in Crete, hailed this as an “extraordinary achievement.” He took to X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, to share his enthusiasm and eagerness to welcome all participating countries and celebrate this grand event with the world.

Initiated in 1951, the Mediterranean Games have been a quadrennial multi-sport event, witnessing participation from 26 countries in its 2022 edition held in Oran, Algeria.
