Krissy Cela: From Immigrant to Entrepreneur

Krissy Cela, the Co-Founder of Oner Active and EvolveYou, shared a personal story on LinkedIn about her family’s immigration to the UK at a young age. Despite having lived in the UK for over 20 years, learned the English language and obtaining a British passport, Cela still identifies as the “5-year-old little refugee girl” who immigrated to the UK via a small boat and lorry from Albania.

Cela explains that her family made the journey in 2000 in order to provide a better future for themselves and escape poverty and corruption in their home country. The journey was difficult and Cela lost many possessions, but her family eventually made it to the UK.

Cela’s parents worked hard to provide for her family, despite the challenges they faced. They worked multiple jobs, got Cela and her brother into school, and always made sure they had food on the table. Cela acknowledges that her parents did the best they could.

Having this experience at a young age left Cela feeling lost, confused and unsure of what the future held. However, she often gets asked what it’s like to run two companies and how she has the energy to do it all. Cela explains that it’s not down to energy, but pure grit and resilience.

Despite the fact that she didn’t attend a private school, failed many exams and struggled with dyslexia, Cela has never lost sight of her vision and purpose. These experiences have shown and reminded her of what she is aiming to achieve in life: to truly help as many people as possible and to always strive to make her younger self proud.
