On March 23, 2023, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama delivered a talk titled “In conversation with Edi Rama, prime minister of Albania” at Chatham House in London, where he entertained an audience of approximately two hundred people by joking at the expense of Suella Braverman. When Robert Moreland, a former Member of the European Parliament, mispronounced Kosovo as “Kosovo” during his question, Rama corrected him and used Suella’s name as a reference to help him pronounce it correctly.
During an appearance on BBC Radio 4’s Today program that same day, Rama expressed his disappointment at the UK Home Secretary’s treatment of Albanian migrants, calling it a shameful moment for British politics. He refused to associate criminals with Albanians as a group, stating that “giving crime an ethnic label is a crime in itself.” This was in reference to Braverman’s previous year’s comments about ‘Albanian criminals’ crossing the Channel in small boats.
